SchoolHouse History

In the late 18th century Hillsboro School was founded in the Leiper’s Fork Community as a private school, and a decade later sold the school to the local county school system for $500 dollars. In 1930 the school got struck with lighting and burned down to the ground.

A few years later it was rebuilt and continued to grow attendance from students from surrounding communities. As the student body grew more space was needed. The SH expanded to have a gym, a new cafeteria, and several more dormitories. Fast forward to 1981, a building was completed on Pinewood Road with a thirty-seven-acre campus, bringing the old-school era to an end.

In 1998 the old Hillsboro School campus was removed including the 1931 classrooms, office, and library. And that’s when one of the classrooms was relocated to sit in the heart of the Leiper’s Fork Village on the bank of the Harpeth River.

Fast forward after several upgrades and remodels now sits a beautiful two-story home that Vince Neil, the lead singer of Mötely Crüe, and his family call their home away from home they call SchoolHouse Retreat.
